Christian Wolff has a talent for solving complex problems. When an old acquaintance is murdered, leaving behind a cryptic message to “find the accountant,” Wolff must recruit his estranged and highly lethal brother, Brax, to help solve the case. In partnership with U.S. Treasury Deputy Director Medina, they uncover a deadly conspiracy and become targets of a ruthless network of killers.
I’ve been meaning to get around to watching The Accountant 2 and guess what? I finally got around to it. I thoroughly enjoyed it. It’s an action packed thrill ride reprising Ben Affleck’s role as Christian Wolff. Now that I think about it, I don’t think we ever learn what “Christians” real name is. The agency he belongs to by the name of Harbor Neuroscience is an overarching entity with the ability to influence governments, the power people in those governments, and have a high tech control room that makes Jason Bourne’s CIA control room look like a bunch of kids in mom’s basement. That’s the funny thing. Harbor Neuroscience is run by prodigy children who have been rescued from their governments the world over or otherwise precarious situations to give them a new life and a new set of life skills. Harbor Neuroscience is a clearinghouse for the world’s top assassins and if you want to see a scary sequence showing the ultimate big brother scenario, you’ll see it in The Accountant 2.
I’m a fan of Ben Affleck and enjoy most of the movies he’s been in. But what I really liked about The Accountant 2 were the co-stars who played alongside him. First, there’s Jon Bernthal, who plays as Christians brother. They couldn’t have picked a better actor to team up with Ben. Jon plays the role of Braxton, Christians estranged brother who he hasn’t seen in a number of years. Braxton’s introduction is both hilarious and fitting. If you’ve seen the original The Accountant, you’ll know Christian is a high functioning savant borderline autistic savant genius who’s the epitome of assassins. We come to learn Braxton, who has his own issues, actually works for the same agency as his brother, Harbor Neuroscience. Christian calls his brother who he’s not spoken to in 7 or so years and needs his help with the current case. Braxton, annoyed that his brother is calling just to ask for help after almost a decade of no contact is requested to be Los Angeles in 24 hours. He’s in Europe at the moment.
We get some hilarious scenes of Braxton acting out his own brand of peculiarity and he truly makes The Accountant 2 a better movie for it. When the two brothers finally meet up there’s a lot of historical tension between them but it gets worked out as the movie develops and it’s great to see the two professional actors working together as a duo. They look like their having a grand old time and makes for some great drama in the slower sections of the movie.
J.K. Simmons is also in the movie but you could almost say it’s a cameo appearance as we don’t really see much of him after the beginning of The Accountant 2.
The other costar that makes The Accountant 2 the fun romp of a movie is Daniella Pineda. Her range of talent is fantastic and it’s a good thing to see more and more of her in various TV shows and movies. She’s definitely got what it takes play alongside the big names like Ben and Jon. She plays the major antagonist of the movie and just kills it (literally and figuratively) in every scene she’s in. Hollywood is really taking notice of her as another actor not pigeon holed by type casting.
The Accountant 2 is brought to us by Amazon Studios. They’re really hit or miss when it comes to movie releases but I give them credit for putting together some great movies lately and the not so great ones we can just miss or forget about. I have a feeling The Accountant 2 is going to do well for them.
At the end of the movie as the credits were rolling I noticed that Mr. Jason Bourne himself, Matt Damon, was one of the producers.
The Accountant 2 was directed by Gavin O’Connor. Written by Bill DuBuque. Featuring Ben Affleck, Jon Bernthal, Cynthia Addai-Robinson and Daniella Pineda. Released in 2025 with a running time of 2 hours and 12 minutes. IMDb gives it a rating of 6.7/10. I personally give it a rating of 8.
