WordPress

Did you know that WordPress makes up approximately 43.7% of all web sites currently on the internet. With the many CMSs' out there in the wild to choose from 43.7% is a respectable number. I think the primary reason for this dominance is WordPress' inherent value and the ease of use.  I personally manage several WordPress based sites myself all of with which I have created with WordPress. Even now as you read this you do so on a WordPress based site. I have been working with WordPress for over 10 years now and there's good reasons why it's my number 1 choice for website building.

With WordPress I am quickly able to install and configure the software as well as its prerequisite additions. To run WordPress there's a few pieces of open source software out there (WordPress is open source) that's required including having a functional operating system. I personally run WordPress on Ubuntu most of the time (90%+). On top of a stable operating system the WordPress requirements are as follow.

First we'll need to install the middleware which in this case will be PHP. WordPress is written predominantly in PHP, a language specifically designed for writing robust and secure web based applications. Additionally we'll need to install and configure MySQL which acts as the data storehouse. Finally, a fully configured and secure Apache Web Server installation will need to be in place. What I've just explained is known as the "LAMP" stack. Linux, Apache, MySQL, and PHP.

Let me know if you'd like to know more.
