Alien Invasion was a movie I’m sure I’ve seen many many years ago, but I doubt myself at times. I’m sure it has nothing to do with the endless listings of movies (pot) with similar if not identical titles one discovers when attempting to find something to watch on practically any streaming offering. I’ve also conjectured that even though I may have seen the movie, and it was probably schloch (technical term, apologies to anyone named that, like Boston University Alumnus and tenured faculty member, Robert Schloch, who, btw, is NOT schloch, technically speaking of course) and watched during a time when I watched many movies of aliens, alien abductions, aliens taking over the world premise, and worst case scenario if I actually did see it, or probably in this case, saw it, I remember “not a damn thing” (more technicalese) about it.
I’m not sure if I forced myself to enjoy it or if my brain might be doing some ‘fuckin’ with Ron’ thing but I’m sure glad I watched Alien Invasion (After the Lethargy), again? While doing some research, it seems the popular title, or the title the movie was originally released with was “After the Lethargy“, butt surprise, that was changed. Probably had nothing to with the word lethargy or the number of people it was estimated, wrongly, who actually knew what the word lethargy meant. What can I say, I’m an outlier.
What I meant by the term ‘schloch’ above might be descriptively described as a moniker for something totally useless, not particularly well made, possibly, no definitively, derivative, or of the variety, if you seen one, you’ve seen them all, and this one is just like all those others, etc etc etc. You know, schloch.
However, I thoroughly enjoyed this viewing of Alien Invasion.
It starts off a bit tropey with some guy out in nature filming himself for his upcoming alien/ufo documentary. After a few minutes of this we cut to our female protagonist, who’s a reporter getting ready to go out and do a report on some nature reserve which has been rumored to have had some weird things going on. This is an understatement, for sure. When she finally arrives there are warning signs haphazardly strewn about denoting the presence of bears in the area. Shortly she is greeted by the resident ranger who apparently has been expecting her arrival and the story starts to play out.
There’s aliens, there’s a guy fucking an alien, an alien chases them, and family very much reminiscent of Texas families presiding over the entire thing like an overarching glass menagerie, including dungeons for the low light variety folk. Now if all this is not enough to get you to check out Alien Invasion, or “After the Lethargy“, then I sure am at a loss at what might. It’s well made, the acting is not bad, and the female protagonist just never stops acting putting forth her best (only?) performance at every turn.
So if you’re bored or enjoy alien themed movies, check out Alien Invasion on Amazon Prime. I’m not an Amazon shill, I just add that in so people know the quickest place to find it and where I saw it at.
