Lies of P is wonderful “soulslike” game. To get an idea of just what a “soulslike” game is go ahead and click of one of those two links for a nice Google page which will give a short introduction on just what soulslike games are and includes about 50 titles. You may already know what soulslike games are but if not look over that list. You may have already played a soulslike. Ok, I’m tired of saying “soulslike” now so I will stop. 😉
Lies of P is not just a great game I have discovered, but a beautifully crafted world with some great places to explore, great NPC characters to interact with, and runs really well on my 3rd generation Intel i5 @3.2 gigahertz and my ancient Nvidia GT 1030 with 2 gigabytes of vRAM. So if you have older computing equipment and/or older video card Lies of P will be fully playable.
Because the game runs so well on my older equipment I decided that Lies of P was going to be my training ground for soulslike games because in the past I never really got into these types of games. It was either the combat was too difficult for me (it actually wasn’t) though I did watch a quick 15 minute Lies of P combat video on YouTube because it took me about 10 tries to beat the first real boss of the game. Once I understood the criticality of blocking its just now a matter of starting to understand the proper block timing as I encounter newer and tougher bad guys. Here’s the introductory video I watched:
I’ve just started Lies of P a week or two ago and my character at the moment is only at Level 17. I have much more to do to progress in the game but now that I properly understand combat and the oh so important blocking, the game has moved out of the “chore” association to the “actually playing the game” association and exploring the world that is Lies of P.
I’m still a bit intimidated by the character screen, the upgrades to character and weapons, and of course learning just what all the items I am picking up through the game will be used for. I know it’s just a matter of time before I figure all that stuff out and it’s possible I’ll have to watch another YouTube video to bring me up to speed on those aspects of the game. Now with the basics of combat out of the way I’ve embraced the learning curve and experience Lies of P will be over the next weeks or months as I gain experience in the game and game world.
I’ll write another article or a follow-up reply in the future as I get better and understand the game better. I’m just glad I’ve found another game to add to my gaming “rotation” so I can get my daily gaming fix on.
