Cosmic horror anyone?

Stephanie is one of the better movies I’ve seen in the last couple of months.

The first third of the movie is brilliant. There’s just enough hinting to let us know that something is very wrong. The beginning of the movie follows a child all alone in a beautiful middle class home. There doesn’t appear to be any parents around and it seems that this poor little blond haired blue eyed child is all on her lonesome left to fend for herself. Where is everyone? One of the things that’s a real standout in this movie is the performance by our child star Shree Crooks. She’s going places if she decides in her life to take the reins and become movie star. She’s really done it in this film and her performance was marvelous. We as the audience are transported into this little girls head and all we can think of is protecting her. So back to the first third of the movie; this little girl so vulnerable and alone in the big house fending for herself. She makes dinner and sets the place for 4; mommy, daddy, her turtle plushy and herself. Dinner is a slice of cheese, a slice of baloney, and some oranges? I forget what the exact dinner was but its cute all the same.

I don’t want to go into any more of this movie as it will get into spoiler territory, and this is one film your not going to want to be spoiled. What you will say by the end of this movie is that you are happy to have watched it and you will be oh so much happier if you’re a true fan of cosmic horror. Stephanie crosses all the t’s and dots all the i’s in that category and I suspect there will be a lot of satisfied viewers. Also there are standout performances from all the actors and that’s another good reason to check out Stephanie.

I can also say there will probably be some unsatisfied viewers, but I suspect the reason for this will be multifold, including not being a fan of horror, especially cosmic horror. But the mystery of it all will make it a good watch all the same I suspect.

Stephanie was directed by Akiva Goldsman and written by Ben Collins & Luke Piotrowski (screenplay). Released in 2017 and featuring Shree Crooks, Frank Grillo, Anna Torv, Kenneth Choi, and Jonah Brees. A horror mystery with and IMDb rating of 5.8 out of 10.
