No Spoilers

Going into The Tall Man I didn’t know anything about it, other than the preview I saw some time ago which I barely remember. There’s a scene at the beginning of the movie which was filmed perfectly in both a visual way, but more importantly, in an auditory way. And the timing. The timing in that beginning scene was impeccable. It truly grabbed me psychologically and I wanted nothing more than for things to go well…

My reviews are always of the no spoiler type so forgive the vagueness of the above paragraph, however I will say it had to do with a very young person and it just grabbed me and me feel for the character and had me deeply hoping for the best. And again, that long count timing was just, impeccable, and it reached for my soul. Suffice it say I am now hooked and I hope this movie turns out decent.

I usually write my reviews by watching the first half of the movie, writing a few words about that, and then I finish the movie and complete the review at that point. What I am talking about so far is only 15 minutes into the movie but because of the way it made me feel I wanted to immediately write this down.

<…continuing the movie…>

Okay folks, at this point I’ve finished watching this movie. I’d like for this to be a negative review of this, but I can’t do it, because I’m still trying to come to grips with what I’ve just seen. For sure The Tall Man is some kind of commentary on the sad state of our world today but unfortunately to me that’s all it was. I’m searching for the deeper meaning this movie is trying to evoke but it’s going to take me some time and maybe a little research and maybe re-watch, but this is one movie I’m not sure if I want to watch again. This movie is a trip.

Now, I’ve just said above that I’m not really sure what this movie was about, or the political or social analysis it’s trying to bring to mind. I understand the bits and pieces of the movie of course and as a whole I do understand it. The problem I have is who in the world thought all this up and do they think it was a good idea. Chances are I’m thinking too deeply into the individual parts of the movie and what I need to do is watch it again and try to formulate an idea on the movie as a whole but now it’s a day later and I’m still at a loss.

I thought this movie was going to be a horror movie and in a sense it is, but I’m at a bit of a loss to know exactly what that horror is. Actually I do know what the horror is but I think this movie went about abating that horror in the most incongruous and difficult way and it’s really hard for me to picture a sacrifice as deep as portrayed. This movie blurred moral and amoral lines and it’s idea of reparation for the greater good unfortunately does not work for me due to the harshness of it all.

That’s all I’m going to write about this movie. If there’s any article I’d like to see a discussion on it’s this one but I will go to YouTube and the web now to find out more about this movie. Check this out and if you would, please tell me what you think.
